reflections on writing down thoughts

on writing thoughts down: I often have thoughts that are finished naturally and I just write down after so I can look back. That is rarely the case however, oftentimes I want to stop something, writing down to either just put an emotional stop or even checkpoint for another time to come back. Failure mode could be writing down instead of lingering on it: unless I use that to put into claude or at least sit looking on it and actively expanding (like I often do in my laptop “thought papers” type of style) then this even helps by forcing clarity, being sharable, and short-term-checkpointing to save working memory if parallel. Just during walking often I could linger, instead I write down and dont do the effort to claude into it, then end up never getting to it and since emotionally closed chance of resurfacing later is lower

  • all that comes from too much friction, a better input device is needed, thank god something is coming..
  • for now can force myself to stop and process, lingering until finished and I can close, stopping and then

actually expanding with Claude if I think it’s useful since unlikely I will get back to it or accepting that not that useful (and if it is it will resurface) and marking as such interrupt often I also actually finish thoughts but in isolation its just a fact and I dont yet have enough surrounding context to develop even if I wanted (you can get it with claude “reconstructing nature”). in that case lets hope I internalized it enough that it pops up, otherwise perhaps once rereading at later point (just like above: I most likely wont, I am generating too much atm, no bandwidth for revisiting)

Logistically speaking: finished thoughts should be assigned to obsidian vault, loose ones too would make me start building a structure (perhaps early and would force me into some premature one.. but I think I got good enough at doing this very broadly until I can, at least overarching area is known) => this means however I force myself to invest the time afterwards, and time is money just as with the above… on the other hand it’s quite thinkable that depth is more useful than amount or perhaps even unique amount less due to duplication AND things I could have inferred from one fact very quickly then randomly popping up in isolated (low bandwidth activity). That fact I rarely need to CONSUME (not just think) entirely new topics is expected, I already have broad enough that there’s always in-between to generate, but more of the items could develop enough momentum & substance that they would require directed interaction => the ones that do, stick on my main active work - which is fine I should always have majority here, but then I should also have my dedicated time for outside things, and why am I generating them in the first place? Well because my mind is captured by that, perhaps this is a useful “shut up” (this naturally stop too much sidetrack distractions however, and I would overshoot and need to block myself from following everything eventually) for focus, but still let’s at least do that in a conscious way

==>  so conclusion is the same: if I have the time and think it's important linger on the thought / develop it actively, otherwise admit to just dump it (because even if just dies in this pit, I like to look back at things)
